Gangtey Lodge

Location: Wangdue Phodrang

Gangtey Lodge is the culmination of a journey that began back in 2003 by owners Khin Omar Win and Brett Melzer, founders of Balloons over Bagan, Myanmar. Over the next few years and countless forays into remote valleys across the country, they finally settled on the mystical and pristine Gangtey valley with their partner Yeshey Norbu. Here the seeds were sown to create a unique, and luxurious Bhutanese farmhouse experience, that would be architecturally pure, provide the warm welcome of a private home and inspire guests to immerse themselves in everyday Bhutanese rural life. Today, Gangtey Lodge offers every possible comfort that one should expect in a fine country home. Its remote location in the heart of Bhutan, allows guests not only to immerse themselves in everyday Bhutanese rural life but to bring positive benefits to the local community. All 12 Farmhouse Suites command sweeping views of the valley below and of the Gangtey Goenpa, or monastery just a 10 minute walk away. Heated hand cut stone floors, deep bathtubs overlooking the valley and wood burning stoves, or “Bhukaris”, complete the sense of luxury and coziness. The main lodge captures the vibrancy of Bhutanese artwork and monastic design. Local artists and masons worked on the murals and carvings reflecting images and landscapes from the valley. Savor a morning cup of coffee on the spacious outdoor terrace while the valley awakens with fresh pine scented air. Cozy leather sofas, nestled around two huge stone fireplaces, and plush, hand woven carpets create the perfect atmosphere for an intimate evening. Our Gangtey Lodge family, all coming from the valleys around us, pride themselves on making you feel comfortable and at home, as well as creating memorable experiences from sharing their favorite hikes and picnic spots, to inviting you into their family homes. Every detail, no matter how small, is looked after.
